Chemistry Department Promotes Exploratory Learning: Chung Ling Chemistry Creativity Contest Guides High School Students to Discover Their Interests

On December 6, the Department of Chemistry held the “2025 Chung Ling Chemistry Creativity Contest,” now in its 20th year, with a total of 84 students participating. After a full day of challenge-based activities and practical competitions, two teams emerged as winners of the Group Practical Gold Medal Award: Tsai Hsuan-Ying, Wang Chun-Hsi, and Chang Che-Jui from Pu Tai Senior High School, and Li Ting-Chieh, Chin Yu-Wei from Taipei First Girls’ High School, together with Lai Bing-Hung from Wuling Senior High School. Each team received a prize of NT$4,500 and a certificate. In addition, four teams were awarded silver medals and six teams received bronze medals.

Department Chair Chen Chih-Hsin remarked that, with the increasing diversity of university admission pathways, career exploration for high school students has become even more important. This event allows students to step into a university environment, engage directly with instruments and experimental procedures, and gain a genuine understanding of the Department of Chemistry. In doing so, they can better assess their own interests and future direction. “Choosing a major is a lifelong decision. We hope students can make their choice after sufficient understanding and experience, rather than being guided solely by grades,” he emphasized.
