Chemistry Department Weekend Program–Indian Students Participate in Exchange Activities in Taiwan
In December 2022, the College of Science at Tamkang University signed an international academic exchange agreement with Shiv Nadar University in India. Beyond faculty-level academic collaboration, the Department of Chemistry hosted its first on-campus Weekend School program this summer, welcoming six students from Shiv Nadar University and engaging seven Tamkang faculty members. From July 2 to August 2, the program offered 120 hours of hands-on courses covering drug development, solar materials, hydrogen production catalysts, and theoretical computation of chemical models using artificial intelligence. To further strengthen bilateral exchange, a 36-hour Mandarin course was also taught by Mandarin Language Center instructor Yuan Yu-Kun.
This initiative is part of a joint research project between Tamkang’s Department of Chemistry and Shiv Nadar’s School of Natural Sciences, led by Associate Professor Hsieh Chung-Hung, with Professor Chen Yao-Hung serving as co-investigator. According to Hsieh, the program was designed in alignment with Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy and the Executive Yuan’s implementation plan, aiming to deepen substantive educational exchange and talent cultivation between the two institutions. A second round of academic lectures between the universities is scheduled for December.
