Tamkang University Department of Chemistry’s ‘Dual-Track Approach’: Cultivating Students’ Career Competitiveness through Hands-on Practice
In today’s era of cross-disciplinary collaboration and advanced technological integration, the value of fundamental sciences has not diminished but rather increased. Traditionally, chemistry is often perceived as a theory-oriented discipline, seemingly distant from future career prospects. In reality, however, chemistry serves as a crucial foundation for high-tech, biomedical, materials, and environmental industries. According to Professor Chen Chih-Hsin, Chair of the Department of Chemistry at Tamkang University, chemistry expertise is no longer a single skill but an expansive applied capability. Students can pursue interdisciplinary learning based on their own interests, thereby creating differentiated competitiveness in the workplace. This has become the core focus of Tamkang’s chemistry curriculum design and talent cultivation in recent years.
